Monash University needed to replace its outdated access control and alarm detection system with an up-to-date system capable of meeting the University’s advanced security needs. The GE Challenger system was selected as it allows the integration of multiple systems with designed in system redundancy, leaving individual systems still operating.
Monash engaged ADR Security to install the new system throughout five of their Melbourne campuses.
This major, ongoing project has involved recabling all buildings from scratch and reprogramming the University's security systems, while keeping the old system up and running so that security operations were not interrupted.
The University needed this large infrastructure upgrade to take place without disrupting the activities of its 15,000 staff and 56,000 students.
For ADR Security, this meant working around the University's teaching timetable. In partnership with the University, we devised a work schedule based on one or two buildings being available at a time.
At ADR, we work with a professionalism and attention to detail that far exceeds the standard of most security contractors. We pay particular attention to the termination of cables, presenting them neatly loomed within equipment cabinets, with all components clearly labelled. This makes it much easier for system technicians to identify and repair faults.
Details like these are often not noticed until they are needed, but we believe it's part of our job to make things easier for the people who have to operate and maintain the systems we install. What's more, we deliver this quality of service without costing more than our competitors.
Because of this project's size and timing constraints, the project has had a long time span, and is ongoing after two years.
Throughout this time, the University has been able to continue all its teaching activities as normal. It has acquired a state of the art access control and alarm detection system, without being inconvenienced at any point along the way, and without any interruption to its security operations.
The University has subsequently engaged ADR for several other projects, including new camera systems, a control room upgrade, and multiple programming changes of the GE Forcefield operating system, which integrates access control, alarm and CCTV functions.
